Performance Vs Charity

Had just watched the NKF Charity Show. Have always enjoyed the show until recent years when I feel that it has become very fake. What does doing some silly and unnecessary stunts got to do with raising money? I mean, to have the various artistes doing what some claimed to be dangerous stunts, is really not needed. Will such stunts make uncaring people become generous and wanting to donate? Or are the artistes doing it more for their own publicity by showing how much they care through the stunts they performed? Then foreign artistes who only sang and danced are not showing enough concern? Or is it that the local feel that they can't outperform the more popular foreigners so they have to resort to performing such tricks to attract sympathy? Or........................ I don't really know the reason behind it but whatever the reason, I feel that all those stunts are uncalled for and to a certain extent very unreal as if some of them were just putting on an act. To me, the part which featured the plight of the kidney patients are more than enough to make me want to dial the phone rather than all those silly stunts. By focusing more on the hardships and sufferings that these patients are going through, I feel, will be more effective in reaching into the hearts of the viewers. I have nothing against those doing their part to raise funds but I'm just not supportive of the methods that are being used. Anyway, different people use different means to gain sympathy and maybe Singaporeans do need such outrageous stunts to stimulate their conscience which could have been buried under the pressure of their daily lives. We all have a part to play towards helping others in society and helping to raise funds through flag selling is one of the tasks we can participate in. However, what is important is that we must be sincere in wanting to help rather doing it for the sake of doing or worse still being forced into doing it. Thus, if one is really serious about doing charitable work what one really needs is a sincere heart, not some fancy acts or some superficial promises.
